Should I add calories to my diet after I hit my weight loss goal?

The idea of eating differently during weight loss and maintenance has been perpetuated. But in our experience, what you do to lose weight (calorie control, fasting, other medication, sleep patterns, and behaviors) will need to happen long term.

When we hit our weight loss goals, our body will fight to return to that weight. That means adding calories will reinforce that defense system to get back up.

You may expand what you are eating. You can exchange some of those calories for a few more indulgences in weight maintenance. The budget is the same, but how you spend it may differ.

Don’t add more calories. Keep a close eye on your weight.
